CANADA
GEESE
The Canada goose population here on The Bison Ranch has never
been more prolific. A popular evening activity here is watching
them feed-and this gives our hunters a good lead on the next
morning's hunt. Giant Canada geese typically take to the South
sometime when the weather turns-usually late October to early
November. Then, we see the Lesser Canadas flying in. These species
make not only a great hunt, but a beautiful picture! Hunt them
with your Nikon, or, for the Giants, BB shot or larger, and for
the Lessers, No. 2 shot.
Early Season: Sept. 1-15
Regular Season: Oct. 3 - Nov. 14
Limits: 3 daily 6 in possession

SNOW
GEESE
The Snow Geese that swoop in to visit The Bison Ranch (typically
early November) are good eating too, and that is due to the fact
that they come well fattened. No. 2 shot, along with decoys,
are the tools you'll need to bag Snow Geese.
Season: Oct 3 - November 14
Limits: 20 daily No possession
possession limits!
SPRING SNOW GEESE
If you can manage to come on short notice, you will probably
not experience anything so spectacular as the snow geese migration.
In the spring,
this area of the state sees the snow geese migration first. Birds
generally arrive in the southeastern corner of the state around
mid-March and spread north and northwest through our area. The
Bison Ranch will accept reservations for this hunting opportunity
on short notice.
Your best bet
to keep apprised about the migration throughout North Dakota's
spring geese hunting season.is by calling 701-328-3697 to hear
recorded information 24 hours a day until the season ends or
the geese have left the state.
Season: Feb. 21 - May 10
Limits: No daily limits |

This particular part of
Coteau Ridge sits right between two nationally known wildlife
refuges. There are several Wildlife Production Areas nearby as
well. We boast the highest density of potholes in the entire
country! The best evidence of that is the way this state is zoned
for waterfowl. Our part of the state is known for such glorious
waterfowl hunting that the North Dakota Game and Fish has actually
differentiated it with restrictions about how often a nonresident
hunter can hunt here!
But one trip
is all you'll need to experience world-class waterfowl hunting!
These potholes nurture every kind of duck you can think of: gadwalls,
pintail-sprig, red heads, widgeon, teals and mallards. You will
also have ample opportunity to hunt specklebelly and Canada geese,
along with snow geese, if you hit it just right.
Our spring
started out
a little dry, but June rains filled up the potholes and we are
seeing lush countryside. Click here

DUCKS
The Bison
Ranch sits in the midst of the part of the famous Prairie Potholes
with the highest density of potholes in the country! These potholes
nurture every kind of duck you can think of: gadwalls, pintail-sprig,
red heads, widgeon, teals and mallards. We don't use boats here;
decoy and pass shooting are what you may look forward to, and
Nos. 2 and 4 shot are what you'll need. Expect to bag your limit;
most of our guests do!
Season: Oct 3 - Nov. 14
Limits: 5 daily 10 in possession |

SPECKLEBELLY
GEESE
We have a spectacular sky when the Specklebelly geese migrate
through, which is typically mid-October. They are only here a
short time, though, and when the ground freezes, they head south.
If you can time your hunt right, however, they alone are worth
the trip, for they are a tasty bird and would make a grand Christmas
dinner!
Season: Oct. 3 - November 14
Limits: 2 daily 4 in possession |
