The Bison Ranch is located on the foothills of the Coteau Ridge , which boasts one of the highest density of potholes per square mile in the entire country!   Go to our "Where's Coteau" page to see where we fit on that map--in east central North Dakota, right in the heart of the Central Flyway and Prairie Pothole Region of the United States!

Featured twice on ESPN's "Backroads with Ron & Raven" this hunting haven has hosted hunters from all over the United States, and they never cease to be amazed at the abundance and number of feathered species we see floating on our potholes and scurrying over our wide open prairies.   Besides world-class waterfowl hunting and upland game hunting , we offer whitetail deer hunts, bison hunts, elk hunts and some small game hunts.

Whatever you wish to pursue, a trip to The Bison Ranch at Coteau Ridge means a lot of good hunting on private land in the heart of the prairie potholes with Oren Krapp (below) owner, guide and outdoor enthusiast.

"Oren, Great bluegill hunt !
Despite what everybody said,
Oren, you're a good shot!
Rio thanks you too!"
We offer thousands of acres of private virgin rolling prairie and CRP (Conservation Reserve Program land) that is teeming with waterfowl, upland game, whitetail deer, red fox and coyote.

At Coteau Ridge, the waterfowl, upland game and deer hunting seasons last from September through November.  Bison and elk hunting is offered year round, but bison hides are most lustrous between mid-November through mid-March.

While The Bison Ranch is known as a premier destination for waterfowl and upland game hunting, many of our clients come here for combo hunts, hunting big game, waterfowl, upland game and small game (mostly coyotes.)

Here is what you can expect when
you book a hunting adventure with Couteau Ridge:

Expert guide services--from those who live and love the land!  Our guides are licensed and law-obiding natives who are fun-loving and very accommodating---and guaranteed to find you all the birds you want!

World-Class Hunting---Oren's guarantee to hunters: If you don't get a shot, you get your money back!

Lodging that includes clean linens when you come, game-cleaning facilities, a hot shower, and evening snacks.  Although you will find yourself in no mansion (there are none in these parts!), we do guarantee you a cozy, warm and friendly farm house complete with fully equipped kitchen and bath and a CLEAN homey atmosphere. Just to make sure you understand, we Krapps are from a German background (yes, we need to buy a vowel!) and though we've lived in North Dakota for generations, we have not discarded the German value of cleanliness and tidiness. You won't be disgusted with your accommodations!

Access to a fully equipped farm kitchen where you may make yourself a noon take-along lunch or an evening meal. You don't have to bring a grill or smoker along--you can use ours! If cooking is not in your plans, we'll introduce you to a local community run cafe that serves great noon specials (they'll also spoil you a little if you show up often enough!). In the evening, we'll take you to the local bar and grille, where you'll find the best steaks and burgers in the country!

We know what your dog means to you --we just lost a Chocolate Lab called Otis that was very dear to our hearts! So we heartily welcome your dog and have a warm place for him/her (please provide your own kennel).

Free transportation from Jamestown Airport (24 miles).  Round-trip transportation from Bismarck and Fargo Airports (120 miles) is $200 per party of up to three.

Whatever you forgot.  We know what it's like to go on a trip and discover you forgot your favorite socks, overcoat, etc.   While we aren't exactly sitting in the middle of the Mall of America, we will try our best to be of service to you during your stay at Couteau! We will fetch ammo, dry socks, gloves--whatever it takes to keep you happy and comfortable. (But PLEASE do your best to come prepared! Dress warm and for wet...that way you are covered for all kinds of conditions. It can get cold here in autumn!
