Some people prefer meat from a young heifer. Because females carry a little more fat on their frame, their meat is a little sweeter and some people prefer that. Our young heifers are cut from the same cloth as our young meat bulls. They are young, vital, have large frames and are majestic animals. Typically, they are just a little smaller, but will yield about 450 to 550 pounds of really delicious meat!

Bison meat from The Bison Ranch tastes much like a good cut of beef, is not gamey, not greasy, and not wild tasting. You will be delighted with its tenderness. No hormones, no antibiotics, just "plains" delicious, safe and wholesome---and not only healthful (67 percent lower in fat than SKINLESS CHICKEN and recommended by cardiologists) but absolutely delicious and flavorful!

Grab your buddies and come hunt your own at
The Bison Ranch at Coteau Ridge
This is no
corral shoot!

...the setting is on a 4,000-acre ranch set in plains that look much like they did 100 years ago. The animals will be running in a vast, beautiful landscape of rough virgin prairie. The challenge will be yours, as bison are not an easy animal to bring down.

This is a unique adventure at an unbelievable value! Call 701-269-9711 or 701-252-6853 or e-mail justask@thebisonranch.com to reserve your date!

The cost of the hunt includes all the meat, hide, head, etc. plus these amenities:

----Guided tour of the ranch and local scenery

--Accommodations for three nights in a clean, comfy farm house

---Three sit-down breakfasts

--Access to a fully-equipped kitchen for noon lunches and evening meals. Or...You may choose to eat in or be escorted by the owner to a local community-run cafe making great homemade food for lunch, and a local grille known for great steaks in the evening. Many of our hunters enjoy these local excursions--you'll find North Dakota people friendly, personable and colorful!

--Assistance transporting your animal to an inspected plant.
As part of your hunting package,
The Bison Ranch will help you deliver your kill to an inspected processing plant. You may choose to have this plant simply prepare your meat for transport, or have it process your entire animal.

The processor will typically charge from $300 to $350 to fully process, cut and wrap meat yielded from a two-year-old meat bull. The cost varies somewhat, depending on the exact weight of the animal and how much of the animal will be burgered, how much will be roasts and steaks, etc.

Or, if you prefer to take the meat with you, the processor will help you quarter it and prepare it for transport for a cost of about $75.

--Assistance with arrangements for taxidermy. If you wish, The Bison Ranch will also make arrangements with a taxidermist. We recommend one located in Fargo (about 100 miles east of The Bison Ranch) and known for extraordinary work. We do not get any commissions or kickbacks from this taxidermist, we just know they do a good job and have done a lot of bisons!

Owned by Jody and Karla Slusher of Horace, ND, J&K Taxidermy charges approximately $1100 for a full shoulder wall mount; to tan the hide costs $20 per square foot (with the hair on) and you'll have about 25 square feet after the shoulder mount (on an average size meat bull that weighs about 1000 pounds).

Crating for a full shoulder mount averages approximately $100. Life-size buffalo mounts are also available. For more information, you may speak directly to the taxidermist by calling 701-588-4179, or e-mail to JKTXDRMY@MSN.COM.

Whatever you plan, the excitement is this: a hunt at The Bison Ranch--what a great opportunity to really provide a wonderful, healthful food for your family!
