You
will love the hospitality, the
camaraderie, the sheer excitement of going back in
time
to hunt a legendary animal in
a magnificent setting. At The Bison Ranch, you will find animals
running in a vast, beautiful landscape of rough virgin prairie
that looks much like it did 100 years ago. The challenge will
be yours, as bison are not an easy animal to bring down. This
is a unique adventure for you and a friend or family member!
We offer three types of hunts--meat bull hunts, cow
hunts and trophy hunts--all
legendary experiences that include 2 days hunting and three nights
accomodations, including full linens and sit-down breakfasts.
All bison hunting packages include the opportunity to hunt upland game, waterfowl , whitetail deer and
coyote when in season. Though there is no licensing required
to hunt bison, in order to hunt any other species--whether mammal
or bird-- you must be properly licensed by the state of North
Dakota.

Here are details on the three types of hunts
available at The Bison Ranch at Coteau Ridge:
The meat-for-the-table hunt

|
Our
"meat for the table" hunts are for two-year-old bulls
in a natural setting: on a 4,000-acre ranch set in plains that
look much like they did 100 years ago.
Your bison
meat bull hunting package, which includes two days hunting, three
nights accommodations (including linens and breakfast) and an
opportunity to hunt other game that is in season at the ranch,
is $1850 --with up to $900 in discounts for group hunts.
(Taxidermy, processing fees and licensing not included).

Cow
hunt--don't underestimate this!
Each year,
our calfless cows are culled from the herd. You can participate
in this "harvest" too. These cows are three years and
up, and are grass fattened wearing winter robes. They yield meat
that is considered by many to be superior to that of a young
bull's. Because females tend to carry a little more weight, the
meat they yield is a little sweeter and a little fatter.
Like the bulls, the cows will be in a huge
pasture of native rolling prairie.
We charge $1650 for a cow hunt
package
--with up to $900 in discounts for group hunts!
(Taxidermy and meat processing fees not included).

Trophy bison bull hunt

|
There's
nothing like hunting a big old trophy bull at The Bison Ranch
at Coteau Ridge in east central North Dakota. For one thing,
the animals are huge: our trophy hunts include mature bulls only!
Thus, they are powerful (upwards of 2000 lbs.), spirited (they
can be downright ugly) and difficult to bring down (veterans
of hunts worldwide often tell us they seldom encounter an animal
so tough).
Our cold North Dakota winters result in thick, beautiful coats
of hair that you won't find further south. A trophy from The
Bison Ranch will give you a mount you will be proud to put on
your wall!
Our trophy
hunts range from $3,000 to $4,000 and are priced according to
an animal's size and stature. The Bison Ranch is known as a reputable
place--our customers will tell you that we are honest
and fair! |

|
Any of our bison
hunting packages include all
the meat, hide, head, etc. plus these amenities: |
Accommodations for three nights
in a warm and cozy, charming farmhouse with access to fully equipped
kitchen;
Three sit-down
breakfasts--and for the other meals, personal escort (if you
so desire) to a local community-owned cafe for a great homemade
meal or treat. We also like to take our gu ests
to the local grille to meet the locals and learn about the region.
OR, our hunters are also welcome to use our kitchen and smokers
to conjure up their own concoctions!
Assistance getting your animal
to an nspected plant (this is invaluable, as bison are huge and
you do need a tractor to get them outta here!) that will skin
and hang your animal (cost is approximately $75 and payment is
made directly to the processor). You may also choose to have
this plant process your meat. They like at LEAST three days from
the time the animal comes in; they charge approximately $300-$400
for processing and packaging a 1000-pound animal.
Assistance lining up your mount and hide
with a reputable taxidermist if you desire. We have one in the
region that does work for Cabellas and does an outstanding job.
J & K Taxidermy, Horace, ND, charges around $1100 for a meat
bull shoulder mount ; to tan the hide costs $20 per square foot
and you'd have about 25 square feet after the shoulder mount
(on an average size meat bull that weighs about 1000 pounds).
J & K Taxidermy (Jody and Karla Slusher ) can be reached
at 701-588-4179.
Hospitality and personal guiding
from the ranch owner himself, who loves the land, his bison and
will show you sincere and unbridled hospitality.

Big game thrill without the cost
of a license!
There is
no licensing required to hunt bison in North Dakota. Our hunters
come with all kinds of ideas in mind: bow, pistol, guns, even
muzzle loaders! If you plan to hunt with a gun, we recommend
a .270 or larger!
After
a hunt at The Bison Ranch at Coteau Ridge, you'll go away with
a great understanding of the history of the land and bison, memories
of a great plains experience, and a lot of great meat.

 |
At
900 pounds, this two-and-a half-year-old cow is half the size
of a mature bull. Still, it is a substantial animal that will
yield at least 400 pounds of wonderful, tasty meat.
Joe
Torre of Campbell, Calif. hunted with The Bison Ranch lin 2003,
2004 and 2006. On his second trip in Nov. 2004, he bagged not
only a bison, but also his first whitetail deer from the vast
herd that inhabits the ridges on The Bison Ranch. He was back
in 2006 and took another whitetail back with him to California. |
Besides being a great experience, a bison
hunt at The Bison Ranch fulfills the "meat on the table"
cause! Bison meat contains 67 percent less fat than skinless
chicken! Look at the table at right to find out what USDA
researchers have discovered about this amazingly healthy meat...no
wonder it is called "America's Original Health Food!
