Discover Upland Hunting!

Our unique setting--at the base of the Coteau Hills, with miles of rolling virgin prairie to the west, and acres of cropland to the east, supports an abundance of upland game.

The winter of 2012 was kind to this population. Especially thriving on our stretch of the coteau are sharp-tail grouse and Hungarian partridge.

Here's what you can expect when you come to hunt upland at The Bison Ranch at Coteau Ridge:
A day of hunting that begins the evening before, when your guides will be scouting over 20,000 acres of private land. You'll be sitting down to one of Oren's famous breakfasts before your morning hunt.

Our sharptail and Hungarian partridge hunting will surprise you--we have good populations of each here. Once again, we'll get you out in the field for the afternoon. You'll likely delight in the countryside. It's beautiful here in autumn!

If you have a dog, we have a warm place to keep him. But if you don't, fear not. Your chest waders will do.

The North Dakota upland season opens on Sept. 8. Ringneck pheasant season opens Oct. 13. We offer 50 percent discounts on early season upland hunting from Sept. 8 - 28. Please email for details about that and other rates. (Discounts for children to age 18 when accompanies by an adult hunter.)

HUNTING UPLAND GAME AT THE BISON RANCH

HUNGARIAN
PARTR IDGE

SHARP-TAIL GROUSE
These friendly and fast birds have always been part of the landscape at The Bison Ranch. They are somewhat quail-like, and can be seen in coveys in the thickets and brush, or scurrying through the grass. Bring a No. 5 or 6, and enjoy!

Season: September 8 - Dec. 31
Limits: 3 daily 12 in possession
Though rare in many areas of the world, sharptail grouse proliferate in this area of North Dakota. They thrive in our fields and ditches on The Bison Ranch. They are what fed the settlers of last century, as they are sizeable and offer a great meat. Best hunted in morning or late afternoon, they are easiest to hunt until the weather gets cold (although season is open until January 1). Bring No. 4 or 5 shot, and be prepared for a great hunt!

Season: September 8 - Dec. 31
Limits: 3 daily 12 in possession
